Taunton, MA…Today State Representative Shaunna O’Connell announced that she has won the endorsement of the State Police Association of Massachusetts.

“I am extremely pleased to receive the endorsement of the State Police Association. Their support shows that I have the proven commitment of supporting our police,” said O’Connell.

In a letter dated September 28, 2016, Dana Pullman, President of the Massachusetts State Police Association writes “Based on a review of your public safety and legislative accomplishments, our membership wholeheartedly believe the Commonwealth, generally, and the residents of 3rd Bristol District, specifically, will be best served by your re-election. With your commitment to the effort to honor collective bargaining rights for our members and your general support of law enforcement initiatives, we have no doubt that you will continue to be an effective legislator. More importantly, you have shown yourself to be a tireless advocate, willing to listen to all sides and act accordingly.”

Since being elected to office, O’Connell has pushed many bills to help our law enforcement officials. She has supported Jessica’s law, Melissa’s law and Kelsey’s law. O’Connell has been a strong advocate for creating a fraud hotline for the police to report welfare fraud. She has supported strengthening the laws on drug trafficking.

The State Police Association represents over 2000 men and women who are regular full time employees in the titles of State Police Trooper, State Police Trooper First Class and State Police Sergeant.

O’Connell was a strong advocate for the Secure Communities program. She also supported Gov. Baker’s executive order to allow the State Police to question residency when a person is detained for possibly breaking another law.

“People can count on me to stand up for the men and women who put their lives on the line to protect us. I am proud to have their endorsement,” said O’Connell.

Earlier this week, O’Connell was enthusiastically endorsed by Governor Charlie Baker at a

jam-packed event at the Portuguese American Civic Club.
