Taunton Kiwanis Club thanks veterans

TAUNTON — Massachusetts Secretary of Veterans Affairs Francisco Urena was the keynote speaker at the annual Kiwanis Club of Taunton’s “Armed Forces Appreciation Luncheon” held at LaFamilia Restaurant.
During the event, the Kiwanis Club presented the the Taunton Area Vietnam Veterans Association with a check for $2,500 to benefit their charitable activities. The funds were raised during an event which included placing over 300 American flags on historic Church Green in Taunton.
The luncheon was attended by over 40 members and guests made up of members of TAVVA, the Disabled American Veterans DAV No. 57 chapter, and the Taunton High School Junior ROTC Program.
Also recognized at the luncheon were Kiwanis members Donald Cleary, Army; John McCaul, Army; Gordon Amgott, Navy; John Costa, Air Force; and Charles Rouleau, Army Reserves. All are veterans in addition to soldiers attached to the Army Recruiting Station in Taunton who are “Corporate Members” of the local Kiwanis Club.
