LOWERING OUR TAX BURDEN
Shaunna O’Connell strongly believes that people should be able to keep more of their hard earned paychecks. Since being elected, Shaunna has supported efforts to reduce taxes and hold the line on state spending. She is one of the few leaders who had the courage to support the successful ballot initiative to roll back automatic gas tax hikes.
Shaunna knows that tax cuts can stimulate the economy and has supported multiple initiatives. She voted against the Tech Tax from the moment it was proposed. Unlike other legislators, she knew from the start it was a jobs killer.
O’Connell has kept her "No New Taxes" pledge and is endorsed by Citizens for Limited Taxation. She supports rolling back the sales tax to 5%.
Shaunna doesn’t just believe in cutting taxes. She knows we need a fiscally sound state government. She has been determined fiscal watchdog. As a leader on welfare reform, her work has saved taxpayers tens of millions of dollars.
O’Connell has also been a leader in fighting for transparency within the MBTA pension fund.
When the Boston Olympics was threatening to use taxpayers’ dollars, O’Connell stepped forward to lead a ballot question to prohibit tax dollars for the games. Due to her effort, taxpayers were saved from having to spend $10 billion.
